Crucial Conversations Workshop

Crucial Conversations is a two-day course that teaches skills for creating alignment and agreement by fostering open dialogue around high-stakes, emotional, or risky topics – at all levels of the organization. By learning how to speak and be heard (and encouraging others to do the same), you’ll surface the best ideas, make the highest-quality decisions, and then act on your decisions with unity and commitment.

The 51�Թ�� Department of Human Resources has teamed up with VitalSmarts to offer this important course to 51�Թ�� employees. Based on the national best-selling book Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking when the Stakes are High, the Crucial Conversations course teaches participants to speak persuasively, not abrasively; foster teamwork and better decision making; build acceptance rather than resistance; and resolve individual and group disagreements. See the attached document for a detailed description of the course.

Cost: $250 (The course fee includes a Crucial Conversations Toolkit, cue cards for each lesson, a Crucial Conversations model card, a copy of the New York Times bestselling book, Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High, the Crucial Conversations audio companion MP3 download, and a course completion certificate).

CliftonStrengths

51�Թ�� employees have the opportunity to schedule hour-long coaching sessions with a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. These coaching sessions help employees to understand their Signature Themes in a meaningful way, enabling them to create strategies and solutions that allow them to learn, grow, develop and succeed here at 51�Թ��.

These employee-driven coaching conversations can be focused on a variety of different topics to support employees including personal/professional development, closing skills gaps, and working towards defined goals or outcomes. Through intentional development and application of their identified Strengths, individuals can improve their ability to build relationships, manage daily responsibilities, influence and respond to others, and think about and process information.

Prerequisite: You must have completed the CliftonStrengths Assessment and attended a Strengths workshop.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an assessment which helps transform how individuals understand themselves and work together in teams. According to CPP – The Myers-Briggs Company, “MBTI insights enhance personal development, supporting team and leadership training, conflict management, career change, and transitions.” Individuals may request an MBTI assessment and personalized feedback session through a certified practitioner. This tool is helpful for both leaders and individual contributors who are interested in exploring the MBTI to engage in greater self-awareness.

Cost: $45.90 per person for 51�Թ�� Staff and Faculty*

NOTE: This assessment is also offered through Career Services for current students and 51�Թ�� alumni.

Intercultural Development

Individuals may register for the Developing Intercultural Competence seminar to learn more about intercultural competence and how the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) can assess, and build upon, your own level of intercultural competence. Qualified Administrators (QA) will guide participants through attitudes, awareness, knowledge, and skills associated with creating an inclusive campus environment. Upon completion of the course, participants are eligible to take the IDI and meet with a QA for their individual profile feedback session.

Cost: $15 per IDI instrument for CU Staff and Faculty

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize and understand emotions in yourself and others, and your ability to use this awareness to manage your behavior and relationships. EI has been shown to increase job performance, productivity, and personal excellence. Come to this seminar to explore this important ability and gain skills to improve your own emotional intelligence.Participants will be able to:

Define Emotional Intelligence (EI).
Explain the business case for developing EI.
Recall areas of the brain involved in EI.
Describe the four elements of an EI model.
Apply strategies to increase emotional competence.

This is a 2 week series. Participants are asked to participate in both weeks.

Gowns, hoods, and tassels, oh my! In this session, we will demystify academic traditions.The history and symbolic significance of academic dress and ceremonies will be discussed.Topics will include the differences between academic gowns, colors, hoods and other elements of dress. Traditional academic ceremonies and their significance will also be discussed.Attendees are invited to bring a lunch for these interactive, informative sessions.
