Work Hours When School is in Session
International students in F-1 or J-1 status can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week while school is in session during the fall and spring semesters.
- This 20-hour limit applies to the combined total of all on-campus jobs.
- Students are responsible for tracking their hours to ensure compliance with this limit.
Work Hours During Fall and Winter Breaks
International students in F-1 and J-1 status can work on-campus full-time (more than 20 hours) during the official school fall and winter breaks with approval from the university in certain situations.
Fall Break
- From November 23, 2025, to November 29, 2025, students can work more than 20 hours this week
Winter break
- Students are limited to a maximum of 20 hours/week (combined total) for on-campus employment by their F-1 or J-1 status until December 13, 2025.
- Between December 14, 2025, and January 3, 2026, continuing students can work more than 20 hours per week during this period.
- On January 4, 2026, immigration regulations will limit students to 20 hours a week again.
Exception Request Conditions for Fall, Winter & Spring Breaks
- If a student's hiring department requests them to work more than 50 hours in a bi-weekly pay period during breaks for business or academic reasons, the student’s hiring department must complete the Exception Request for Student Employee Work Hours.
- Approval will not be granted based solely on the student’s desire to work additional hours.
