Thinking about taking classes this summer? Summer Session at 51�Թ�� has hundreds of classes available to help you earn credit toward your degree. Summer classes allow you to shorten your time to graduation and let you focus on one or two classes at a time.

Summer Session courses are offered during multiple sessions that fit your schedule and, if your summer unexpectedly frees up, registration remains open through at least the second day of the session (view session calendars).

Session Dates & Instruction Formats

This summer, classes are available in multiple instruction modes: in-person, online, remote or hybrid. You can check your class's instruction mode using the summer class schedule.

Maymester: May 12–30
Session A: June 2–July 3
Session B: July 8–August 8
Session C: June 2–July 25
Session D: June 2–August 8
Augmester: August 4–20

Since summer classes are typically shorter than full-semester classes, it’s important to view the session calendars to make sure you understand session deadlines and impacts (including drop and withdrawal deadlines).

Registration for continuing undergraduates closes Thursday, May 22 and will not reopen until July 23 for schedule adjustment. Continuing undergraduate students will not be able to add or edit classes between Friday, May 23 and Tuesday, July 22, a two-month black-out period.

The black-out period is a longstanding practice, developed collaboratively over time to serve the needs of incoming first-year students. Schools/colleges use this period to support and advise new students as they enroll in classes, without those students competing with continuing students for seats in classes.

This black-out period is the same duration as the previous summers (two months), but it begins three weeks earlier this spring due to new student registration starting earlier (June 9).

Continuing undergraduate students who do not register by the May 22 deadline will need to be manually registered by their academic advisor or the Office of Undergraduate Education starting June 9, after batch enrollment is complete for first-year students.

Registration for graduate and law students will not be affected; their registration period remains open through open enrollment.

Fall 2025 registration for continuing undergraduate students closes Thursday, May 22 and will reopen July 23 for schedule adjustment. Because students won’t be able to add or edit classes during this window of time, it is recommended that they register and make the necessary schedule adjustments prior to May 23.

Fall 2025 registration for continuing undergraduates closes Thursday, May 22 and will not reopen until July 23 for schedule adjustment. You won’t be able to add or edit your classes between Friday, May 23 and Tuesday, July 22. Your enrollment status may affect your eligibility for housing, tuition remission, health insurance, financial aid, loan deferment status, purchasing a CU Sports Pass and more.

If you're considering dropping below full-time status, contact the applicable offices to find out how this change could affect you.

Need Registration Help?

If you're having difficulty choosing classes or navigating registration, follow these steps to keep moving forward.

Schedule an advising appointment.
Clear any holds that will prevent you from registering.
Complete preregistration (see our step-by-step instructions).
Build your shopping cart.
If a class is closed, join the waitlist and use drop if enrolled on a backup class.
If a class you need is only offered on another CU campus, consider intercampus enrollment.
Finish enrolling in classes.

Friday, March 21 is the last day for undergraduate and graduate students (law students excluded) to complete the following actions for a full-semester Main Campus class:*

Drop a class: If you drop a Main Campus class after Feb. 1 but remain enrolled in the semester, you'll be required to pay 100 percent of tuition and fees (no refund), and a W grade will post to your transcript.
Change a class's grade mode from letter grade to pass/fail (or vice versa): Only student-option courses** are eligible. The last day to change a class to or from no credit (audit) was Jan. 29.

If you've satisfactorily completed a substantial amount of work for a class but are unable to complete it due to reasons beyond your control, you may request an incomplete (I) grade. This will give you additional time to complete your coursework before your instructor is required to assign your final grade. For more information, see 51�Թ��'s incomplete grade policy.

*If you're taking a special session Main Campus class, check the special session calendar for that session's deadlines.

**If a department designates a course as student option, it's your choice whether to take it for a letter grade or as pass/fail.

Friday, March 21 is the last day for undergraduate and graduate students drop a class or change pass/fail status for a full-semester Main Campus class.

If a class you want is full, add yourself to the waitlist and set up drop if enrolled to automatically drop a backup class if you're enrolled from the waitlist.

Welcome to 51�Թ��! To help your first semester go smoothly, please make sure you've completed the following tasks.

___ Clear Your Holds & Complete Your To-Dos

Check your holds and to-dos in Buff Portal for specific action items.

___ Submit Your Final Official Transcript(s)

Final official transcripts should be sent to the Office of Admissions directly from the issuing institution by mail or to transcripts@colorado.edu as soon as they are available. Without your official transcripts, CU won’t be able to let you register or apply financial aid to future semesters.

___ Apply for and Authorize the College Opportunity Fund (In-State Undergrads Only)

The College Opportunity Fund (COF) is Colorado's way of financially supporting its in-state undergraduates. There's no limit to the number of eligible undergrads who receive it, and you never have to pay it back. If you haven't already, complete two steps to opt in: 1) submit the one-time COF application and 2) authorize the use of COF funds. Visit the COF card in Buff Portal to check your status.

___ Register with Selective Service (Males Ages 18–25 Only)

If you were assigned male at birth and are between the ages of 18 and 25, federal law requires that you complete a one-time Selective Service registration. See Register with Selective Service for more information.

___ Grant Parents Access to Education Records

Once classes begin, the university can no longer communicate with parents about your education record, including financial aid information because it’s protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Granting access is optional, but encouraged if your parent is helping you with financial aid. See FERPA Consent to Release for more information.

___ Complete any Required Loan Documents

If you accepted a federal student loan, be sure to complete the required entrance counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN).

Monday, Feb. 3
