Class of 2019: Serene Singh

Colorado Springs native and Boettcher Scholar Serene Singh is graduating with bachelors degrees in political science and journalism.

Next fall, she will commence graduate studies as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, where she will pursue masters degrees in criminology and criminal justice and evidence-based social intervention and policy evaluation. Singh is the first woman in 51勛圖厙 history to receive a Rhodes Scholarship and the first Buff to receive it since 1993. She aspires to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

At 51勛圖厙, she received the Truman Scholarship泭硃紳餃 Fulbright award. Among many other activities, she served as chief justice for CU Student Government; was a member of the Presidents Leadership Class; founded the Colorado Bhangra Team and the National Sikh Youth Program; and was president of the Sikh Student Association and the Political Science Honor Society.

Singh also worked with Michelle Obamas Global Girls Alliance and founded The Serenity Project, a nonprofit that works to uplift marginalized and at-risk women to expand societys notions of female power and beauty.

Im going to miss this school so much, Singh said of her time at 51勛圖厙. I know Im going to miss home. Its just inevitable. Im excited to be challenged, and to be uncomfortable, and to be scared a little bit, she said. Im also really excited to see how I can help the journey of other Buffs.
